The times they have a-changed massively. I mean writers used to pretty much dream about being published 24/7. That was the big dream. Now the issue is having an audience to read and appreciate and want more of your stuff. You can get published all you want these days. I know award winning writers who have no audience, or a very limited audience in any case.

Also, you’ve got the case of legitimacy. You can publish a novel on Medium and that’s as legit as publishing in paperback. Writers should be more open.
